KidZania is an international chain of entertainment centres for children presented in 17 countries all over the world. KidZania provides children and their parents a safe, unique, and very realistic educational environment that allows kids between the ages of four to twelve to do what comes naturally to them: role-playing by mimicking traditionally adult activities. As in the real world, children perform "jobs" and are either paid for their work (as a fireman, doctor, police officer, journalist, shopkeeper, etc.) or pay to shop or to be entertained.
The indoor theme park is a scaled down city built for children, with buildings, paved streets, vehicles, a functioning economy, and recognizable destinations in the form of "companies and businesses" sponsored and branded by leading international and local brands.
The major part of the different rooms lacks natural light. The lighting should be really multifunctional and meet all normal requirements the different professions zones.
Apart from the lighting in the support office areas the main challenge was to design a lighting solution for the playing areas. In order to make the different applications as realistic as possible Fagerhult knowledge about lighting for humans and paying great attention to sufficient amount of ambient light became a very important argument.
All playing areas are lit with energy efficient Fagerhult luminaries: Notor, Globia, Telescope Aqua, Marathon, and about a thousand Pleiad G3s. As a result of the good lighting solution Fagerhult Russia has now become the general provider of lighting for KidZania in Russia.
